OVERVIEW

The course is designed to introduce students to the camera, acquiring practice and guidance towards video proficiency increasing their ability to perform under real-time pressure and have a deeper understanding of video gear and their various uses and how they lead to a faster more intentional turnaround.

  • Week 1

    Session 1 & 2: Introduction to Video and the Brief

    Activity Overview

    • An introduction to the form of video and its lineage from film.
    • Introduction to the video workflow.
    • Understanding the client brief and learning to ask the right questions well before the day of the shoot.
    • A quick overview of different types of video projects (weddings, events, interviews, etc.).
    • Following an intention (aesthetic and informational) and planning for execution.

    Activity Objectives
    At the end of this activity, you will be able to:

    • Execute a quick sequence of shots within the parameters given in class.

    Week 2

    Session 1 & 2: Camera Theory – Lighting – Composition

    Activity Overview

    • Covering all essential camera and lens theory.
    • Using natural light to your advantage.
    • Basic lighting setup guides.
    • Understanding the cinematic look.

    Activity Objectives
    At the end of this activity, you will be able to:

    • Gain a complete practical understanding of camera and lens theory.
    • Use practical and lighting equipment to achieve intended results.
    • Apply practical and aesthetic composition techniques.
    • Perform basic use of audio equipment.

    Week 3

    Session 1 & 2: Camera Workshop

    Activity Overview

    • Workshop testing all learned information by executing the brief given to the students during class.

    Activity Objectives
    At the end of this activity, you will be able to:

    • Practically apply all the theory studied in class in the form of a workshop.
    • Perform guided practice to execute a challenging turnaround.
