Week 1: Tournament Fundamentals

In week 1 you will be guided through the core fundamentals of planning an esports tournament including game choice, structures, and formats.

  • Game choice and getting Publisher approvals
  • Calculating the duration of different tournament types
  • Key considerations such as equipment and setup

Week 2: The 5P’s Of Planning

Week 2 focuses on the 5Ps – Place, People, Promotion, Prizes and Publisher
Some of these will be more important than others depending on the type of tournament or event you are setting up.

    • How to support staff and think about how many you need
    • Key considerations for choosing a venue
    • How the game publisher influences prizing

Week 3: Event Planning & Operations

Creating a live tournament event is very different from creating an online tournament.

In Week 3 we go through considerations for venues, equipment, and operations plans.

  • Key considerations for adding a broadcast to your event
  • Creating operations plans and setup schedules

Week 4: Marketing Your Event

In Week 4 we look at promoting your tournament and event, including the differences between Owned, Earned, and Paid media.
We’ll also talk about engaging your audience and building a community.

  • Using rewards and the WARM model to engage an audience
  • How to generate money from your event or tournament

Week 5: Understanding Costs

Week 5 is about budgeting and costs including considerations for staff costs, equipment, venue and marketing.
We also look at an RFP process and pitching for projects.

Week 6-8: Planning Project

  • Plan a tournament and event based on a project brief
  • Plan marketing and staffing for the event
  • Create a budget for the event and submit your proposal

With a track record of working with EA SPORTS, Disney, and Square Enix, Philip’s influence extends far and wide.

Philip also planned and delivered education and school gaming activities for the Dubai Esports & Games Festival and managed the Fan Zone at the BLAST Global Finals in Bahrain in 2019, later supporting the Global Finals in Abu Dhabi in 2022.
