OVERVIEW

This course covers the basic knowledge required to produce a short video, including screenwriting, directing, producing, digital camera operation, lighting, sound, and basic computer editing on an industry-leading application. The course is very ‘hands-on’ in its approach with students being exposed to the five stages of the video production process, as well as a range of industry-standard applications. Students will participate in short film production during the course and will understand the importance of Pre-production, production, and post-production.
  • 16 years and above
  • Anyone who wants to get substantial skills in filmmaking, such as basic camera handling, lighting, and editing
  • Budding filmmakers with a passion for creating short films, movies, or documentaries

Adobe Premiere Pro

Session 1: Cinema & Production Fundamentals

  • Film history, visual storytelling, genres, and audience
  • Film crew roles and production workflow
  • Set etiquette and on-set communication

Session 2: Scriptwriting & Story Development

  • Story concepts, script structure, and formatting
  • Character development and narrative techniques
  • Writing scenes and developing a short film concept

Session 3: Cinematography, Lighting & Sound

  • Camera techniques, composition, and visual language
  • Lighting fundamentals for film production
  • Sound recording and audio best practices

Session 4: Directing & Producing

  • Directing actors and visual storytelling
  • Production planning, shot lists, and storyboards
  • Scheduling, budgeting, and pre-production workflows

Session 5: Short Film Production

  • Hands-on crew roles and set experience
  • Filming a collaborative short film project
  • Coverage, continuity, and problem-solving on set

Session 6: Post-Production

  • Editing workflows, pacing, and storytelling
  • Color correction, sound design, and final delivery
  • Completing and presenting the final short film

Final Project
Develop, produce, shoot, and edit a short film from concept to completion while experiencing the full filmmaking process.
