Legendary Polar Explorer Robert Swan
15th January 2012
SAE Institute Dubai, in collaboration with Middlesex University Dubai and as part of their Master Class series of inspirational lectures, hosted renowned polar explorer Robert Swan during his recent trip to the UAE. After this landmark visit to the United Arab Emirates, the ‘2041’ yacht will circumnavigate India then visit China before reporting back to World Leaders in June of 2012 at the World Summit in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
Mr. Predrag Toncev, Campus Manager at SAE Institute Dubai commented: “Education isn’t just about hands-on and theoretical knowledge; it’s about inspiring and motivating today’s youth to be better people and help them make the right decisions that will shape their lives and potentially our planet.” He added: “To have a truly historically significant figure such as Robert Swan as our second guest speaker since the new semester was a real proud moment for both institutes’ faculty.”
‘2041’ was founded by polar explorer, environmental leader and public speaker Robert Swan, OBE. Swan has dedicated his life to the preservation of Antarctica by the promotion of recycling, renewable energy and sustainability to combat the effects of climate change. It is their mission to build on this by informing, engaging and inspiring the next generation of leaders to take responsibility, be sustainable, and know that now is the time for action in policy development, sustainable business generation and future technologies.
With carefully chosen words including ‘inspire commitment by showing it yourself’ and ‘…as leaders you can’t just tell others the truth, you need to listen to the truth about yourself as well and expect it,’ Robert Swan hit home with the students in a strong and poignant talk about following your dreams and never giving up.
Dr. Cody Morris Paris, Senior Lecturer and Coordinator for Social Science Programmes at Middlesex University Dubai commented, “Robert Swan’s message of leadership through action was truly inspirational for those in attendance, as was his devotion to encouraging the youth of today to take responsibility for their actions and become positive agents for change in the movement for global sustainability.”
