What you need to know about this course
This two day workshop is aimed at those whose interest in photography is hindered by a lack of understanding of the basic fundamentals. The workshop will take the form of illustrated talks, discussions, accompanied practical photographic shoots, as well as group analysis sessions. In order to fully benefit from the workshop you will need to bring with you a digital camera. It is recommended that your camera is not fully automatic; preferably one which has manual, or semi automatic exposure modes
Who is the course for
This workshop is aimed at those whose interest in photography is hindered by a lack of understanding of the basic fundamentals.
Contents
- The digital camera menu: Automatic (A), Program (P), Shutter Priority (S), Aperture Priority (Av), and Manual (M) exposure settings. White balance, resolution settings, camera flash, auto focus and macro setting.
- The control of ISO, aperture and shutter speed. Their relationship with each other and their adjustment in determining correct exposure.
- Elements of photographic composition and image structure.
- The aesthetics of monochrome and colour photography, and the development of an individual style.
- Digital camera handling
- Downloading images to the computer
- Basic image adjustment using digital darkroom techniques
- Re-sizing and saving images

Entry Requirements
There are no academic requirements to participate in this programme. The student needs to be a minimum of 17 years of age upon commencement of the course.
