Lighting With Mental Ray Certificate
The Mental Ray short course promises to underline the principles and foundations of lighting, rather than just insight into the use of applications. Widely employed in film and video motion picture production, lighting is the combining of visual elements from separate sources into single images, often to create the illusion that all those elements are parts of the same scene.
Today, the industry is relying more and more on digital image manipulation. Pre-digital lighting techniques and computer softwares are widely used in this process, whereby layering, lighting, and manipulation, blend many different images to make the final image look like a seamless shot.
Aims
SAE Institute’s mental ray short course addresses the challenges lighters face in a practical manner by focusing on the aspects to follow: *
- Introduction & Overview
- Simple Lighting and Rendering
- Lighting an Interior with Artificial Light
- Lighting an Interior with External Light
- Lighting an Exterior Scene
- Using Image Based Lighting
- Animation for Large Scenes
The course will refine students’ use of the practical applications for lighting in a digital environment. Main softwares used in the duration of the course are: Maya

Entry Requirements
Note: There are no academic requirements to participate in this programme. The only entry requirement is for the participant to be at least 17 years of age upon commencement of the course.
