Kakha Kakhadze was born in 1980, in Tbilisi, capital of Georgia. After school years, he was enrolled at business administration faculty, Tbilisi State University of Economic Relations. He started his designer carrier in 2012 at wine and brandy company "Askaneli Brothers". In 2013, he worked in the advertising agency JWT Metro for a while, then he continued working at George Bokhua’s Studio, until 2015. Since 2016, he has been freelancing, also teaching brand identity at The Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA)

What inspired you to enter the career you are in?
After graduating the university, I couldn't find a job in my field, so I tried myself in different positions. For the last time, when I was working as a courier, I had to wander around city, so, I started to observe signs and logos. I inspected their forms, colours, studied the history of their origin and development. I followed their changes. I started to evaluate, whether which was the better old or new one. When I had free time, I used to scroll https://logopond.com , I remember how I was excited, when I saw the logos by Gert Van Duinen and George Bokhua for the first time. Then I found out that George Bokhua was from Georgia, having his studio in Tbilisi, so I aimed to work with him.
I started to study Adobe Illustrator online and uploaded the logos I created on various websites. People liked my work and very soon, I even sold some logos. This gave me more trigger and I worked as much as I could. I soon quitted courier service and spent all my time on design and creating of logos. Soon I created pretty good number of logos, so I had the chance to find a job with my brand new profession.
What are your career highlights?
After some practice in several companies, with the recommendation of George Popiashvili then being the creative director of JWT Metro, I stepped in the George Bokhua’s Studio. This was the most important moment in my carreer development. While working with George, I was fully immersed in logo design. Together we worked on many interesting projects, he also recommended me to teach at GIPA.
What projects are you working on at the moment?
Presently, I, together with the partner designer Nina Megrelidze are working on logos of fast food and tourist companies.
How do you meet tight deadlines? Tell about a time you completed great work under pressure.
In any case, working on logo design is pretty stressful and it doesn't matter whether you have much time or not. You have to think about various concepts for each project, lots of sketching, searching of whether there is a similar logo design or not, creating of own version and presentation. I mostly regulate deadlines, trying not to work on more than two projects simultaneously, though there are moments, when I have to work on three and four projects at the same time. Therefore, you have to control one thing - keep the performance quality.
What’s an example of a project where you disagreed with the client’s feedback and how did you handle it?
I often heard from other designers that they are not satisfied with their customers and blame them for bad results. I think, if you explain the disadvantages of their decision well, they will understand. Moreover, feedback of the customers even helped me to improve logo design.
How do you measure the success of your designs?
I have several evaluation approaches for that. The best is when my customer likes the logo, the designers I respect and myself. Therefore, I upload my works on various websites for getting opinions of other designers and viewers in general, with their likes and comments.
How often do you create logos based on golden ratio and circular geometry? Can you explain about this technique?
I love to use geometry in my logos, so I often do it. It is extremely important to use circle geometry and golden ratio correctly. Logo should be interesting from the very beginning, having good overall form, only afterwards it should be refined with geometry. We cannot create a good logo with only scattered circles and spirals on the papers. I recommend George Bokhua’s Skillshare classes for developing your knowledge in this direction.
What brands do you admire the most and how do they influence your work?
In the course of time, I admired works of different companies and designers. Presently, among active designers I mostly like the works of Jay Fletcher. I like the geometry, composition, font and colour selection of his works. What qualities and skills should a good graphics designer acquire?
Vision, point of view must be the most important skill for the designer. It is necessary to see the forms, lines, colours, proportions, details, where everything is ordinary at the first sight. Like many other professions, you need diligence, concentration, focusing on details, patience, bravery, communication skills, honesty and non-stop working on self. Things may not always turn right, but at the end, your diligence always will have the result.
What advice would you give to students aspiring to become successful in their field?
Some people are lucky, finding their field from the very beginning, but often we have to search for a long time and finally we find our job. Do not be afraid of changes, do not think that the profession cannot be changed, try any other direction, don't be afraid of failures, they are the best teachers. Work on self-development. The world is offering us many new and interesting things and you will definitely find the one you always wanted to do, giving you pleasure and financial wellbeing at the same time. If you really want to reach something and you struggle for it, it will work out - this is what you must believe in!
